Overview

Tailors are the descendants of earwigs that have filled the niches of the eusocial insects, 175 million years after humanity disappear. Their size ranges from small workers, than 1 centimeter long, until the queen that can measure up to 7 cm.

evolution
After the great mass extinctions of both the Holocene as the end of the Cenozoic, most of the families of Hymenoptera were extinguished, leaving room for new organisms to occupy their niches, including Dermaptera. They evolved from earwigs survivors who managed to establish itself as eusocial animals. 175 million years later became one of the dominant organisms on earth. They inhabit tropical and temperate zones of the planet.

Features.
Although morphologically similar to the old earwigs, however, noticeable differences in their life cycle. Go through different phases that define the caste to which they will become:

Phase 1: This phase is the phase of labor, where the nymphs grow to belong to that caste. Most of the colony (males and females) passing through this stage. Many individuals fail to pass this phase and remain as permanent workers.

Phase 2: This phase defines the role completely fulfilled individuals. Suffer as a kind of metamorphosis where they develop a morphology adapted to their work. It can be from nymphs care (nurse) to fight (warrior) or for growing food (farmer). Females are limited at this stage as they can only become nurses.

Phase 3: This phase is exclusively for the queen and the breeding males. Because they have the ability to produce haploid cells.

Lifestyle .
They live in large underground colonies around the roots of trees. The workers gather food while the warriors accompanying the workers despite its size, together are a formidable force that can topple even 50 times higher animals . Farmers convert organic material brought by the workers in fertilizer for raising different species of fungi that grow underground . Nurses living around the queen, taking nymphs and caring for them .

The lifetime varies , depending on their roles:
Workers 2 months
Nurse: 1 year ( or less)
warrior : 1 month ( or less)
Farmer : 2 years
Reina 25 years.

At the time of the queen will die, starts to create a replacement, which will keep the colony for another 25 years. The workers who will become queen is a neotenous state, which retains its shape nymph until it reaches the size of a common working and then be fertilized by a male, then starts a metabolic process that makes it grow.
